„What is lying in the empty space between man and his artefacts? If there
ever was a period artists celebrated the horror vacui, how deeper today the
technical and scientific researchers – but also the artists – examine the vacuum
which surrounds the objects. Margret Holz has a true passion for the empty
space.
Asked to explain her abstract photograms and drawings representing
fragments of objects. Margret Holz seeks a link with the public marketplace. The
ballet of loitering shoppers and the gestures of busy salesmen find their
counterpart in the empty space between all these actors in a mutating field.
Paradoxically Holz is analysing the choreography, the dynamics of the yet
unrevealed energies that active reality.
For a long period Holz’s work turned around the objects she freeles in the
paper of her photograms. Later on appeared an urge to stress the fuzzy images
by rawly soldered strong metallic forms. This year she left this solid evidence in
her series “Folienzeichnungen”, large sized transparent drawings, to unshroud
the “entourage” or energy fields of physical reality. Her dynamic lineplay
alternating with intense lettering incovers what the artist sees in the penumbra.
Her works testify for a mastery of the composition that makes me think of the
primary pulsion and foaming optimism of a jazz performance.“
